For 20 years, Dalia Anderman has thrived as a Marriage and Family Therapist in Northern California. Her profound experience with diverse families and individuals means she’s no stranger to guiding clients from moments of breakdown to powerful breakthroughs.
In particular, Dalia’s transformative journey with Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) over the past 20 years has revolutionized her approach to couples therapy. Having studied extensively with Dr. Sue Johnson, the pioneer of EFT, Dalia has developed an intricate understanding of this attachment-based therapy.
Dalia believes that the core of most relationship challenges isn’t just the fleeting arguments but the deep-seated desperation and longing we feel when our bond with our loved ones gets disrupted. Her adeptness in EFT has empowered numerous couples to navigate hurdles like infidelity and distrust, helping them rediscover intimacy, vulnerability, and fervent desire.
Moreover, she has been at the forefront of the Hold Me Tight® workshop program, facilitating transformative sessions across Israel, South Africa, and the U.S for over half a decade.
While couples therapy is her prime focus, Dalia’s expertise isn’t confined to it. She’s proficient in EMDR, CBT, and Family Systems, adeptly addressing trauma, addiction, parenting challenges, sexual intricacies, life transitions, and more. Her skills are also recognized and sought after at notable events like Burning Man, where she serves on the Mental Health medical team.
Choosing Dalia Anderman means gaining more than just a therapist; you acquire a steadfast ally, keen on navigating you through life’s intricacies, reigniting the spark in relationships, nurturing compassion, and building enduring connections.
In an era where emotional intelligence often takes a backseat, Owen Marcus emerges as a groundbreaking advocate. With 40 years dedicated to the nuances of mindfulness and emotional physiology, he’s not just knowledgeable but visionary.
Confronting the enduring stereotype of the emotionally reserved male, Owen crafts a fresh narrative. He posits emotional fluency not as a learned trait but as an intrinsic aspect of maleness. His work dives beneath the surface, illuminating the labyrinthine emotional tapestry woven into the very fabric of the male psyche.
His insights are showcased in the documentary About Men. Meanwhile, his book Grow Up: A Man’s Guide to Masculine Emotional Intelligence goes beyond superficial counsel. It serves as a comprehensive guide, paving the way for authentic, deep-rooted connections.
In his role as Co-founder and creator of the EVRYMAN Method and now co-founder of MELD, Owen’s impact resonates beyond individual men. His work has been featured in the New York Times, Men’s Health, GQ, and ABC News. His pioneering Regenerative Relationship system urges us to reconsider vulnerability, framing it not as a frailty but as the bedrock of enduring relationships. His coed trainings authentically connect men and women in ways they didn’t believe possible..
In a society still wrestling with outdated definitions of masculinity, Owen Marcus offers a vital lifeline. It’s not just a call for men to be more emotionally available; it’s a call for everyone to recognize and celebrate emotional complexity as an inherent part of the human experience. It’s a call to connect.

Is this retreat right for us?
If you’re asking the question, probably yes. This works for couples in crisis and couples who just want to go deeper. The real question is whether you’re both willing to show up and do the work.
We see couples stuck in the same fights, couples who’ve lost intimacy, couples recovering from betrayal, couples who love each other but can’t seem to connect in ways they want. If any of that resonates, you’re in the right place.
Why six days instead of regular therapy?
Because at home, life gets in the way. You have one good session, then the week happens: work stress, kid meltdowns, that thing you forgot to do, and by the time you’re back in the therapist’s office, the momentum is gone.
Six uninterrupted days removes all of that. You can’t escape into your usual distractions. Most couples describe it as years of therapy compressed into one week.
What is EFT and why does it work?
Emotionally Focused Therapy, developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, is the most researched couples therapy model out there. It works because it doesn’t just give you communication tips, it addresses the attachment patterns underneath your conflicts.
When you understand why you fight the way you do, when you can see the cycle you’re both trapped in, you can change it.
What makes your retreat different?
Three things: First, we don’t lecture at you for six days. Dalia and Owen work directly with each couple; the real conversations happen privately with our guidance.
Second, we bring different expertise. Dalia’s a licensed therapist trained in EFT and with years of teaching this work around the world to couples and therapists. Owen spent decades working with men’s emotional patterns through the MELD Method. We cover ground that other retreats don’t.
Third, the setting matters. Imiloa is world-class — luxury accommodations, incredible food, jungle immersion. The environment holds you while you do this work.
Are we doing therapy in front of other couples?
No. Teaching happens in a group. The vulnerable work happens privately between you and your partner, with us guiding you through it.
You can share with the group if you want, but nobody has to. We protect your privacy while still giving you the benefit of a supportive community.
My partner doesn’t talk about feelings. Will this even work?
Yes. EFT was designed for this situation. We’re not going to force your partner to “open up” or “share more.” That just creates more resistance.
Instead, we help you both understand what the shutdown is protecting against. When people feel really safe, they start to let you in. I’ve seen the most emotionally guarded people soften when the approach is right.
Owen’s somatic work allows those who believe they can’t feel or express their feelings to find easy and often fun ways to be emotionally connected. We all have the hardware, it’s just some of us haven’t been given the software.
What problems does this retreat address?
Conflict cycles you can’t break. Emotional distance. Intimacy issues. Betrayal and trust repair. Parenting stress. Life transitions. Living parallel lives.
But it’s not just for crisis. Some of the most powerful shifts happen with couples who are basically okay but want something deeper. If you want more from your relationship, that’s reason enough.
What does a typical day look like?
Morning teaching sessions begin with yoga in a beautiful, open-air jungle building. We move to understanding the key principles of successful relationships—then guide couples to practice, with direct support from us. Built-in downtime to process, integrate, play, or just be together.
Optional wellness activities. Some days include excursions. The rhythm alternates between active work and rest; you need both to integrate what’s happening.
How many couples? How personal is the support?
We cap it at 15 couples. More than that, and you lose intimacy and individual attention. Throughout the week, you work directly with both of us, plus we provide follow-up support after you’re home.
How big is the staff?
There are four of us: Dalia, Owen, and two experienced EFT therapists.
We’re close to separating. Is it too late?
If you’re both here and willing, no. EFT is particularly effective for distressed couples because it repairs attachment injuries and rebuilds safety at the foundation. The exceptions: active abuse, coercion, or addiction. Those require different interventions first
What’s included in the price?
Luxury accommodations, three daily gourmet plant-based meals (customized for dietary needs), charter flight within Costa Rica, ground transportation, all teaching sessions, materials, online resources, follow-up support, and access to on-site wellness services.
The only things not included: your flights to San José, Costa Rica, and any extra excursions you add.
Tell me about the accommodations and food.
Every couple gets a private room. Options range from handcrafted Bali homes to jungle bungalows to Sky Forest suites. All are luxury spaces; you’re choosing vibe and location preferences.
Food is exceptional. Three plant-based meals daily, fresh juices, smoothies, specialty drinks. The kitchen handles allergies and restrictions without issue. You’ll be well-fed.
What kind of community is created?
As mentioned, there is no group work, yet we share activities and meals. Through the natural interaction in a safe environment, we all start connecting immediately. We all realize the is no perfect relationship. We start laughing at ourselves as we relax into a group of people who recognize that we are alike.
Do we need prior therapy experience? What kind of community is created?
No. The model guides you step-by-step, whether you’ve been in couples therapy for years or never at all.
Sometimes, couples without therapy experience have an advantage, no preconceptions about what it “should” be like. You just show up and follow the process.
What kind of changes can we expect?
Clearer understanding of your patterns. Tools for repair and reconnection. Renewed intimacy. A more secure bond. Most couples use words like “reset,” “turning point,” or “finally feeling seen.”
But we’ll be straight with you, the retreat creates conditions for transformation, but you have to do the work. What you get depends on what you bring.
What’s your cancellation policy?
A 20% deposit to reserve your spot. Full payment is due 60 days before the retreat. Partial refund available up to 60 days out. After that, get travel insurance to protect yourself.
Can we stay in Costa Rica longer?
Extended stays at Imiloa aren’t possible due to their booking schedule, but the staff provides recommendations for nearby hotels, beaches, towns, and eco-lodges. Many couples add a few days to their trip to enjoy the reconnection without rushing home.
